Hello, my name is Atticus Finch. I live in Maycomb County in Alabama. I live with my son Jeremy Finch and daughter Jean Louise Finch. I also have a nanny named Calpurnia who helps me raise Jem and Scout, since their mother died when they were young. I enjoy reading and often helped Scout with her reading. I treat my children as adults even though both of them are under 13 years old. I'm not afraid to be very honest with my kids, even if the subject is a mature one . I dislike when someone is judged by their appearance. That is way I always tell my children; "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view."
I highly disagree with the code in Maycomb. People like Tom Robinson are judged by their skin color.I decided to take Robinson’s case even though I was fully aware of the repurcussions of my decision and the great possibility that I would lose. A lot of innocent black men have been jailed for no fault of theirs while many others have been killed. My motive in taking this case was by no means an attempt to appear heroic but rather to teach my children and the county about the prevalent issue of prejudice and its impact on society. The death of Robinson is a constant source of pain to my soul. I firmly believe that he was a hardworking man who had been falsely accused of rape and only prejucided upon because of his skin color.
My greatest dream is to one day see my country as a land where racism does not exist. In order for this to come true, the law must be completely unbiased to everything except crime and intention. I yearn for a land of equality.
I also wish to see my both of my children to live as conscientious adults.
